Sustainability & Environment

Building a sustainable future

The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time: the construction industry accounts for 38 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. As a leading construction technology group, we take our responsibility seriously. We build with and for people, want to be part of the solution and create real change. This means less impact on the environment and more benefit for society. We take a holistic view of sustainability and derive new ways of working.

Work On Progress

At STRABAG, we don't just talk, we take action. Through our projects and together with strong partners, we contribute to sustainable construction and develop innovative technologies together with strong partners. Our mission in the UK

We are determined to minimise our environmental impact, support the communities where we operate, and pioneer sustainable construction practices. We focus on reducing resource consumption, developing recyclable materials, and driving innovation for a greener future.

Our commitment goes beyond our projects. We strive to leave a lasting legacy of environmental responsibility and social value, setting new standards of innovation and excellence in every aspect of our work.

Our sustainability strategy at STRABAG UK stems from the STRABAG Group strategy, anchored in three pillars:

Our climate neutral goal

Our ambition at STRABAG is clear: to achieve carbon neutrality across our entire value chain by 2040. By climate neutrality, we mean the goal of minimising greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting emissions that are difficult to avoid through targeted compensation measures (see UNFCCC 2021). In doing so, we will continue on the science-based reduction path that we have already taken until 2040.

With a robust data foundation established to track CO2 emissions, including Initial Scope 1 and 2, we continuously refine our processes to minimise our impact on the climate.

We are guided in the UK by our key sustainability principles:

Emission prevention
A focus on reducing or avoiding CO2 emissions, with prevention as the top priority.
Circular economy
The development of resource-efficient circular economies that minimise waste and maximise reuse.
Supply chain partnerships
The optimisation of our supply chain while actively engaging suppliers and subcontractors.
Lifecycle management
An awareness of the entire lifecycle of a project, including planning, construction, use or repurposing, as well as demolition, recycling, and disposal.
